Causes of Cold Stomach After Running

After my sunday morning run I touched my tummy and I was a little bit shocked to feel it was cold. My first reaction was something must be wrong: I have associated cold things with dead things!

When I got back home I immediately switched on my laptop and started Googling “cause of cold stomach after running”

My nerves were calmed down when I learn’t it was normal to experience a cold stomach after running.

Your stomach gets cold when you work out because you are burning calories/losing weight. The fats and carbohydrates get digested much quicker and the blood begins to rush to other organs at a faster rate. Fermetation then kicks in and replaces the oxygen being lost from your blood going elsewhere in your body with lactic acid. The lactic acid will cause both a buring in you abdominales along with a colder feeling on the surface of you stomach.

The Rock N Roll Mardi Gras Full & Half Marathon took to the streets of New Orleans on Sunday morning.

Forty-five bands rocked on 24 stages across the entire half-marathon and marathon courses.

16,000 runners came up dressed in the best marathon costumes that made it a good day for stock photos, sports photo galleries & sports photo library.

Special mention goes to Philip Lawrence, who made Sunday’s run his 107th marathon in 24 years.

StanChart Marathon Training Week 19, Fatigue & Stretching

Week 19 was supposed to have been the week when I did my final long run (a 34K run) before I start tapering, but I canceled it. I woke on Sunday morning feeling like my legs were cemented on the ground.

The leg fatigue had built up during the week. I did a 28K run on Sunday followed by two 16K runs, on Wednesday and Friday. The two 16K runs were on high tempo. I guess with the 2009 Stanchart Marathon 3 weeks away am getting excited and running very hard and fast.

Although I had been stretching my legs I had not been massaging. Professional massaging isn’t cheap? I decided to give myself a massage. When I squeezed my calf muscles I felt like screaming. All the stress of running had accumulated inside.

When am walking or running I cant feel the pain but i feel the effect of fatigue in form of slowed pace. No matter how had I try to run I only move in a slow pace.

I suspended my Sunday log run and decided to spend two days massaging myself. I have been squeezing my calf and shin muscles and now my legs are feeling lighter.

As I head into the last two weeks of training I will pay more attention to stretching and massaging.

Healthy Food Advice For Runners : Avocado for Runners

Eating the right food is important if you want to a good runner. One food that I have discovered to be fantastic for runners is Avocado.

I was reading my girlfriend’s magazine when I read an article that claimed a single Avocado is parked with 100 calories. I instantly concluded  if an Avocado has also those calories it would make a brilliant post race meal. Eating all those calories would speed recovery from my long runs.

I tried eating an Avocado after my sunday morning 16 k long run and chilled to see whether I would see any difference. The difference was how I felt on Monday morning. I woke up feeling like I could run a 10k. Everything felt fresh, I didnt feel the usual tiredness in my legs. Am yet to conclusively determine if it was the Avocado but I will keep testing……
