80-yrs Old Ed Whitlock Rotterdam Marathon Time : 3hrs 25Mins

I have just checked the Rotterdam marathon results of Canadian Ed Whitlock. The ever green 80-years old Canadian did not disappoint.

Ed whitlock ran a spectacular 3:25:43 (3:25:40 net) to smash the world 80-84 record of 3:39:18 set by Australia’s Robert Horman at Brisbane in 1998. (Source:running Competitor.com)

What is even more exciting about this results is the silver haired runner had been suffering from flu a few days before the race.

Thumps up to Ed! You are an inspiration! When we grow up we want to be like you.

Oprah Winfrey Marathon Time : Marine Corps Marathon

“I want to beat Oprah!” That is the goal of many runners. Oprah Winfrey finished 1994 Marine Corps marathon in a time of 4 hrs,  29 mins, 15 Secs.

If Frank Shorter inspired the first (1970s) running boom across US, Oprah Winfrey inspired the second, by running the Marine Corps Marathon. If Oprah could run a marathon, shame on anyone who couldn’t.

How Oprah ruined the Marathon.

While race directors across US were happy to welcome the new generation of runners or is it marathon walkers, the hard core runners were not happy. Edward Mccleland writing for salon.com thinks :-

America’s competitive spirit has been wrecked by feel-good amateurs like Oprah whose only goal is to stagger across the finish line.

I totally agree with him! The marathon is a race, the goal should be to finish it and to finish as fast as you can.

How To Predict Your Marathon Time

To predict your marathon time, race shorter races about a month or less than the marathon.

Marathon Time Calculator

For a 10K race, multiple your time by 4.67 to predict your marathon time. For a half-marathon, multiple your time by 2.1. For example, a 10K time of 45:30 would predict a marathon time of about 3:32:30; a half-marathon time of 1:35 would predict a marathon time of about 3:19:30.

Good Luck
