Researchers are now reporting you can gain alot by listening to music in your Ipod / MP3 player while running.

From the BBC website

Dr Costas Karageorghis and Professor Peter Terry, sports psychologists from Brunel University West London and the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba respectively found music increased energy efficiency by 1-3%, meaning athletes could run further on the same amount of oxygen.

The researchers further found women seemed to benefit more than men.

Maybe this new find explains why elite runners are banned from listening to Ipods while running.

The Nike + plus running shoes are shoes from Nike that comes with a pouch for a sensor device from Nike that calculates the distance traveled, pace and calories burned by a runner.

Not all Nike shoes come with a ready made pouch for fitting the sensor, runners are advised to buy Nike+ model shoes.

One Nike+ model shoe is these Nike Men’s Air Max Moto + 6 shoes.

Once a runner purchase the gear he can register with official Nike Plus website to store his workouts.

Nike Plus does all these little things, like when you do your longest or fastest run, Lance Armstrong or Tiger Woods comes on and congratulates you on your iPod. So, you’re thinking while you’re running, I’m not going to get Tiger Woods unless I run really fast or long.

Marathon races have rules and regulation. The rules for elite runners are more stringent than for the casual runners.

The rules for elite runners became more clear after the debacle at 2009 Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee. In that race three different ladies were declared winners.

The first winner was Cassie Pellar who was disqualified shortly after the race for accepting aid – a water bottle – from a friend outside of the official water stations. The second place finisher, Jennifer Goebel, then took the first place. After a few days, supporters of Cassie posted a photo of Jennifer, the race photos showed Goebel with an iPod tucked into the waistband of her shorts. Since running with an ipod is against the rules she was stripped off her first place.

The third place finisher Canitz, a green 42 year old runner was elevated to first place.I wonder what dirt they will now dig out about her??? she better have her taxes in order.

The Elite Marathon Rules

Don’t take water or food from spectators

Don’t listen to music during the race.

And this last one is so obvious, Don’t use dope

I was browsing around the cyber world when I came across this invention on science mag website that claims how you can generate a usable amount of electricity from your walking.

Scientist in the United States and Canada said they have developed a unique device that can be strapped on the knee that exploits the mechanics of human walking to generate a usable supply of electricity.

If you are a runner who enjoys listening to your Ipod while running and you are worried that your Ipod Battery might get low, Worry no more! the geeks behind this gadget say a minute of walking can power a cell phone battery for 10 minutes.
