Best Marathons To Qualify For New York Marathon

New York marathon is a popular race and every runner wants to run it. Organisers have two ways of restricting runners, capping the numbers at 40,000 and requiring all applicants to meet New York Marathon qualifying times. They only take the cream of running!

The New York Marathon qualifying times are no Joke!

For Men ages 19-39 you must have run previous race with a PB of or better than 2.55 or a half marathon of sub 1.23. As for the ladies you must have run previous race with a PB of or better than 3.23 or a half marathon of sub 1.37.

For runners over 40 – 50 yrs their is no reprieve.

Qualifying times are 3.10 for men and 3.38 for women. Half marathon times of 1.30 for men and 1.44 for women are what you need to have a look in.

With those high standards the race you choose to meet the qualifying times is very important. My number one tip is look for a race with good weather and a flat course. Those two factors will greatly improve your chances of htting your target.

Some of Flat Marathon Course that can give you an advantage

Belainish Gebre Photo : Picture

Belainish Gebre won the 2010 Honolulu marathon. But her victory had been challenged by second place finisher claiming that Gebre had received fluids from Ezkayas Tsegaya, Gebre’s boyfriend.

The race stewards checked the photos and concluded she had nothing wrong since her boyfriend was not her coach and she had only received the official water and nothing else special.

They gave her the win plus the $40,000 price money.

2009 Honolulu Marathon Race Photos : Pictures : Images

23,000 marathon runners hit the streets of Hawaii for the 2009 Honolulu marathon. I don’t know why this race is so popular with Japanese runners, 15,000 of them ran the race.

A lady, Honolulu photographer, who lives along the Honolulu marathon route took some awesome photos, from the images you would have been forgiven if you thought the images were of Tokyo marathon. The Japanese were all over.

With hundreds of marathons held around major cities in the US not all marathons are the same. Some marathons are harder than others and some are easy to run.A good example is Boston marathon, even without its requirement for proof of running a previous marathon, the hilly boston route would be handful for a marathon newbie.

Most beginners choose to run nearer home but if you are an adventure seek you can choose a marathon from a different city. In choosing a marathon to run a beginner should ask is the course flat or hilly.

If your goal is an easy marathon, I think you may benefit from US Airways article that listed some easy marathon across US.

Writer Larry Olmsted had a few simple criteria for choosing his first marathon: good weather, a flat course, a fun atmosphere and a high volume of registrants to lower his chances of coming in last!!!!!!
